The Deering Estate
The Poetry of Place
Project by Caridad Moro-Gronlier
This four-hour mini writing retreat guides participants toward generating work inspired by and in conversation with the Deering Estate. The day begins with a generative workshop on ekphrasis and public spaces facilitated by poet Caridad Moro-Gronlier, followed by a self-guided tour of the Deering Estate grounds which may include: an onsite hike/walk, observation of Biscayne Bay, the study of archaeological and historical resources, as well as the permanent art collection housed there. After an “on the grounds” lunch, followed by free writing time, the retreat culminates with an open-mic session during which participants share their original pieces with fellow workshop members.
