This April, if you’re at the right place and time, you’ll encounter a collective of artists reciting poems in English and Spanish to the masses. The poems shared by the Megaphone Poets explore the relationship between Miami and the poetic word.

Participating poets: César Segovia, Douglas Gómez Barrueta, Kelly Martínez-Grandal, Claudia Noguera Penso, Legna Rodríguez Iglesias, Isadoro Saturno, and César Rodriguez.

Douglas Gómez Barrueta (Caracas, Venezuela, 1974). Publicó “Talla de agua” (Editorial Eclepsidra, Caracas, 2013). Forma parte de las antologías “Jamming. 102 poetas” (Oscar Todtmann Editores, Caracas, 2014),"La floresta interminable. Poetas de Miami" (Editorial ArtesMiami, Miami, 2019), "Escritores salvajes" (HyperMedia, Miami, 2019), “Con la urgencia del instante” (Ars Communis. Chicago, 2022). Su manuscrito “Los pasos del puente” fue una de las obras finalistas del Premio Paz de Poesía 2022, convocado por la feria del libro de Miami y The National Poetry Series de Estados Unidos.

Kelly Martínez-Grandal (La Habana, Cuba, 1980). Escritora, editora y curadora de fotografía. Nacida en Cuba, emigró a Venezuela en 1993, donde vivió por veinte años. Ha publicado los poemarios Medulla Oblongata (2017) y Zugunruhe (2020), las plaquettes Paria (2020) y Una luna anacoreta (2021) y el libro de cuentos Muerte con campanas (2021). También es antóloga de Todas las mujeres (fulanas y menganas) (2018). Desde el 2014 reside en Miami, Florida. En 2021, Zugunruhe obtuvo la Medalla de Plata en el Felipe Herrera Award, International Latino Books Award, a mejor libro bilingüe de poesía.

Claudia Noguera Penso (Caracas, Venezuela, 1963) Escritora, editora y ensayista venezolana, autora de los libros Nada que ver, Último trecho, El viaje, Caracas mortal y Bajo Infinito. Poemas, crónicas, reportajes, entrevistas, traducciones y reseñas han sido publicadas en antologías, periódicos, revistas y portales en Venezuela, Estados Unidos, España, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, México, Uruguay, Italia y Brasil, parte de su obra ha sido traducida al inglés, italiano y portugués. Vive en Estados Unidos desde el 2016.

Legna Rodríguez Iglesias (Camagüey, Cuba, 1984). Escribe la columna Irrelevante en la revista digital El Estornudo y la columna 53 Noviecitas en Hypermedia Magazine. Obtuvo el Premio Casa de Las Américas, teatro, 2016; el Premio Iberoamericano de Cuentos Julio Cortázar, 2011; y el Paz Prize for Poetry, otorgado por The National Poetry Series, 2016. César Rodriguez (Caracas, Venezuela, 1996). Venezuelan multi-instrumentalist artist and music producer based in Miami. With over a decade of experience studying, performing, and exploring different genres such as classical music, pop, alternative rock, Latin folk, and ambient music, César has evolved as an independent music creator. Having studied Music Business and Production at Miami Dade College, he now produces various acts from the Miami indie scene such as Musiana, April Nicole, and Koto Kaur. Rodriguez created the Latine Fest, a Latino-indie music fest that took place at The Center for Subtropical Affairs for the first time last February. He has performed at The Perez Art Museum, Vizcaya Museum, Lagniappe, and Oasis Wynwood. Presently, César performs with Hunters of The Alps, April Nicole, Musiana, Filo, and Cesar Paniagua, not only as a producer but as a live musician. He's currently working on his solo project Delusion Bay's next album.

Isadoro Saturno (Barquisimeto, Venezuela, 1987). Poet, picture book author, editor, and translator. His first picture book, Conejo y Conejo (Ekare, 2018) won a prize as Los Mejores del Banco del Libro (Caracas, Venezuela, 2018) and was translated into Chinese in 2020. His work has been featured in multiple anthologies, collections, magazines, digital portals, and zines. His poetry chapbook Dear Parent or Guardian will be published by Ugly Duckling Presse (New York), under the Señal collection, in December 2023.
