February 5 & April 8, 2016
New World Symphony
Miami Beach
O, Miami presents a special evening with Juan Felipe Herrera, the current Poet Laureate of the United States.
Guests sit on ON-STAGE with Herrera at New World Symphony Hall in an original and intimate "live-taping" of a POETRY FILM. The footage from the evening will later be Wall-casted during O, Miami 2016 and presented around the world.
The theme of the evening is "Casita de Colores," a Miami version of Herrera's project to create a crowd-sourced poem involving as many Americans as possible during the period of his Laureateship.
In addition to Herrera, a selection of local youth poets and other original Miami acts will read, ensuring that there is no way this reading could take place anywhere else in the world but Miami.
Then on April 8, bring your blankets and picnic baskets to Miami Beach’s Soundscape Park for our annual Poetry Wallcast.
This year, on a Friday night under the stars, O, Miami presents a 7,000 square foot version of the nation’s first Hispanic Poet Laureate, Juan Felipe Herrera. Projected in high-definition onto the side of New World Center with state-of-the-art surround sound, the Poetry Wallcast is like no other literary reading in the world.
The Wallcast begins at dusk (approximately 7:41 p.m.). Come at 7pm to get a good seat and enjoy a new edition of the World’s Smallest Poetry Reading and other park activities.
Stay after to get signed copies of Herrera’s books, courtesy of Books & Books.
