Poetry Pirates

Miami River

"Poetry Pirates" is a poetic pillaging of the Miami River, the city's main waterway and a highly trafficked artery for commercial and pleasure cruising.

On Saturday, April 18, 2015, artists Antonia Wright and Ruben Millares and 35 fellow Miamians dress as pirates and mermaids and recite Walt Whitman’s “After the Sea Ship” to passing boats on the Miami River.

Using bullhorns and grouping on the shore, on rafts, and in small craft vessels, the “Poetry Pirates” entertain, delight, and confuse Miami boaters.

After the performance, participants enjoy a backyard bbq on the river at the studio of Wright & Millares.
