Patti Smith Surprise

The first time O, Miami was announced to the public was at a reading and performance by Patti Smith at Miami Book Fair 2010.

Miami Book Fair graciously allowed O, Miami to make remarks before the reading. We introduced the idea of the festival, and then, with the help of 100 volunteers in the audience, we read a poem by Rimbaud (Patti's favorite poet), with members of the audience joining in.

At the end of her appearance, Patti did an a capella rendition of "Because of the Night" that was magical. See the videos below.
