New World Symphony musicians, led by Hannah Nicholas, play new works by young composers inspired by poems.

The concert, hosted by CIC Miami, features musical works by four 21st C. composers: Layale Chaker (Lebanon/Paris), Ljova (Russia/NY), Abby Swidler (Boston) and Sahba Aminikia (Iran/SF), paired with four poems. The fourth work is a joint collaboration with poet Mario Ariza (Dominican Republic/Miami).

Poetry weaves together a narrative that explores themes pertaining to exile, home, and love. The music and words connect to a variety of artistic traditions, including folk, improvisation, classical, and contemporary.

The concert also includes brand-new visual art from Roseminna Watson (Austin, TX) and Loren Moore (Miami) and features guest artist Brad Whitfield (Alabama Symphony) on clarinet.

Miami-based violist Hannah Rose Nicholas currently plays in the New World Symphony and was recently appointed Principal Viola with the Central City Opera Orchestra in Colorado. Hannah has given solo performances at the Lucerne Festival Academy, the Kennedy Center, and the New World Symphony, where she has showcased her own programming and unique collaborations. She also performs in the Colorado Chamber Music Series Englewood Arts, and is a founding member of the indie-folk trio The alt Default (2015-16 Knight Arts Challenge Winners).
