The Suspect Device: A Comics & Poetry Workshop
In this hands-on workshop, participants make a one-page comic using the “Suspect Device” method of comics experimentation.
The Suspect Device method uses randomly selected comics panels from classic comic strips as prompts to inspire participants to write their own comics. We’ll discuss the mechanics of the comic strip, poetry and abstract storytelling. At the end of the workshop, participants will have a completed comic they can take home with them.
This workshop is great for any age and skill level and is led by Neil Brideau, who has taught a variety of comics and zine workshops across the country. Neil self-publishes his own all-ages mini-comics and runs Radiator Comics, which distributes hand-made and self-published comics from over 50 artists.
A new transplant to Miami, Neil helped found the Chicago Zine Fest and the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo [CAKE].
