A project by Julie Frances, presented in partnership with Easy Peasy Tattoo.
This project invites participants to explore poetry through the art of tattooing in an accessible, hands-on workshop.
Led by tattoo artist and Easy Peasy founder Julie Frances, participants will learn the basics of safely handling a tattoo machine before tattooing short poems about Miami onto fruit or sheets of practice skin. Poems may be written by participants or selected from O, Miami’s poetry archive.
The workshop emphasizes tattooing as a creative and mysterious art form, sparking a sense of childlike wonder for those encountering it for the first time. Tattooing onto fruit introduces an element of impermanence, mirroring how poetry captures fleeting moments, emotions, and places. By transforming words into visual and tactile marks, participants engage with poetry beyond the page and experience it as living art.
Designed for ages 18 and up, the workshop welcomes people who may not typically see themselves as poets or visual artists. Participants leave with a finished piece, a new creative skill, and a deeper connection to Miami as both place and inspiration.
