Co-created by artist Agustina Woodgate and poet Mary Ruefle, Scratch-Off Poems used lottery tickets to deliver an original poem.
During April 2014, five thousand poetry scratch-off tickets were distributed around Miami-Dade County to bodegas, restaurants, and corner stores.
Using a penny or a fingernail, purchasers unveiled the words of an original poem by Ruefle. If the words in the poem matched the words at the top of the ticket, they could win a prize. (Either way, everyone won a poem.)
