Poems for Bread
Presented in partnership with Zak the Baker

All month long, O, Miami & Zak the Baker want to know: What is your earliest food memory? What comes to mind as the perfect bite? What food or meal tastes like Miami to you?

We believe that Miami, and the rest of South Florida, has a regional cuisine just as unique and compelling as any other in the world. To nurture and celebrate this idea, we’ve teamed up—for the third year in a row—to create a month-long “Poems for Bread” trade.

1 Poem = 1 Loaf of Bread

Grand Prize Winner receives free bread for a year! Runner-up receives a native fruit tree!

Here’s how it works:

  • Come to the bakery during the month of October and write a haiku about “What is Miami Food?”
  • Submit your poem to Zak's team at the counter.
  • Choose your bread (while supplies last, excluding challah).
  • Enjoy!

Some rules:

  • Must be in haiku format (5-7-5).
  • One trade per day.
  • Must be on prompt, “What is Miami Food?”
  • We ask that submissions not about Zak or Zak The Baker.

Available all month long with the exception of October 2, 7, 8, 14, and 15, when the bakery will be closed.

To all those who live here, work here, visit here, or are connected with Miami in some way, we want to hear from YOU, “What is Miami food?”
