Open Call: Moons for Miami
a project by Cory Penca

“Moons for Miami” asks, what would the different full moons of the year be called if they were named for Miami?

O, Miami and project manager Cory Penca invite Miamians to submit names for the full moons that are more reflective of South Florida's sub-tropical climate and its annual cycles. Submissions should draw inspiration from Miami’s seasons, ecology, culture, rhythms, and more.

“Moons for Miami” adds to the moon’s existing lore by creating a new layer of local mythology, shaped by community imagination. Inspired by how different cultures, especially Indigenous American tribes, have named the same moon, this open call invites Miamians to look up, look around, and contribute to the celestial body’s existing lore.
