The Last Ride of José Martí

Calle Ocho

The Last Ride of José Martí is an homage to the continued significance of the life and work of Cuban poet and revolutionary José Marti.

Actor Ivan Lopez—dressed as Martí—rides down Calle Ocho on the back of a white horse (Bacanao), while helpers distribute white roses outfitted with Martí poems.

The day begins at the parking lot at Versailles Restaurant (3555 SW 8th St.), with Señor Martí getting his first cafecito in over 100 years.

Then Martí and Bacanao ride from the Tower Theater to a small park just off of Calle Ocho on SW 13th Avenue (824 SW 13th Avenue), where Martí again reads his poems.
