Judges Reading Poems

April 27 & 28, 2011

Miami-Dade County Courthouse

On April 27 & 28, 2011, for the O, Miami Poetry Festival, two different judges and other guests read poems in courtrooms at the Miami-Dade County Courthouse.

A summary of the activity

Judge Robin Faber read "The Road Not Taken"

The Assistant PD is Hugh Keough, whose daughter Meghan read: "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot Nothing is going to get better. It's not." (From The Lorax)

Thursday, April 28 in Judge Francis's courtroom:

Her brother Malcolm also read:

Be who you are and say what you feel,
Because those who mind don't matter,
And those who matter don't mind

Judge MaryJo Francis read to the jury pool:

Waiting for the fish to bite
Or waiting for wind to fly a kite
Or waiting around for Saturday night
Or waiting perhaps for their Uncle Jake
Or a pot to boil or a better break
Or a string of pearls or a pair of pants
Or a wig with curls or another chance Everyone is just waiting.

Judge Francis also read "A Raisin in the Sun" by Langston Hughes a few times during the month of April, in her courtroom.
